What are we about?

We are a small collective of filmmakers from Melbourne, Australia who mostly make films for ourselves but also collaborate on projects with other like-minded creators.

Most of us are practicing freelancers in the industry and have collectively worked in short-form television, feature films, music videos, web series, corporate video, education and bunch of other obscure areas.

Our basic group principle is to share the knowledge we’ve learned while journeying on creative endeavours. If there is one thing the film industry needs it’s a bit of transparency, the best way to learn is by sharing experiences and hopefully ours might shed some light on what and what not to do when trying to make films.

The Regulars

Scott Burgess

Scott Burgess

Producer/Editor

After finding his start in community television, breaking and fixing equipment on the live breakfast program, Scott studied at Deakin University quickly discovering that you probably shouldn’t tell people you learn from breaking things.
He is a keen observer of new technologies and proponent of remix culture, constantly on the lookout for anything that combines the two areas to tell interesting stories.

Esteban Ulloa

Esteban Ulloa

Cinematographer

Esteban was first discovered working on a 2nd year university film. As the only person with the guts to load a 16mm film canister, he was assigned the label of cinematographer and hasn’t dropped it ever since (the canister). With a deep understanding of photography and an eye for aesthetics (presumably the other one is for reading), he creates stunning visuals that make the rest of our composed frames look like early Michael Bay films (sorry Michael).
Mawrgan Shaw

Mawrgan Shaw

Producer

Mawrgan, who generally goes by Maw, is a creative whose talents far outweigh the time it takes to learn how to spell her name. Once every 3 weeks Maw will usually bring in a short film idea involving either at least two children or half a dozen animals, consistently breaking the two cardinal rules of filmmaking. However nine times out of ten they wouldn’t seem out of place slotted before a Pixar film. She is a ruthless organisor and keeps the 54th Story ship sailing north.
Benoit McCullough

Benoit McCullough

Director

Born in Canberra in 1987, Benoit was all too happy to graduate from university in 2008 and run to the nearest large city. He drastically overshot Sydney, looped the entire globe and (for our benefit) ended up in Melbourne. He has an affinity for all things drama and action. With an unnatural obsession with blockbusters, Benoit brings a large scale sensibility to the table. Even when the table might look more like a small coffee stand.

Special Guests

Tyson Burgess

Tyson Burgess

Engineer

Tyson is a mechatronic engineer and programmer using his book and brain smarts at Blackmagic Design. He is also Scott’s brother, which I guess explains why he is also facing away from the camera (it must be genetic). Tyson is the MacGuyver of the team, rigging almost any prop or set together out of shoestrings and WD-40. However he is also the most likely to change the world someday judging by the incredible breadth and ingenuity of his ideas, so let’s all suck up to him now before his thought powered mecha-overlords take over and we won’t have to worry about getting incinerated from the inside out.
